SoulShine Check-In: Small Things, Big Impact!

Hey Team SoulShine 💛
Every morning, as soon as I become aware of my thoughts, I check in and take a few deep breaths. I settle into my mood and figure out where I’m at. I’ve experienced high levels of stress before, so I know what to look for. If I wake up feeling uneasy, tense, anxious, or overwhelmed, I know I need to counteract it early so I can have the kind of day that keeps my nervous system as regulated as possible.
Over the years, I’ve built tools and strategies for most of the common stressors. In my experience, reducing stress isn’t about doing big, complicated things - it’s about remembering to do the little things consistently. Every morning, I grab a cup of coffee, crawl back into bed, and turn on the twinkling lights above me. That small ritual is my cue to relax and feel cozy. Another go-to strategy is moving my body every day. My future self is always more energized and upbeat after a sweaty session. I also try to get outside daily - even if it’s just for 10 minutes. It’s grounding and always helps shift my perspective. Staying ahead on my schoolwork (and not procrastinating on VSU assignments!) also keeps my mind clear and my stress levels low.
Then there’s the harder stuff - the emotional boundaries. Saying no to extra commitments. Asking for help when I need it. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to second-guess any invitations I say yes to during the ovulation phase of my cycle. I feel confident, social, and unstoppable - until two weeks later when my energy dips and I crave rest. Tracking where I am hormonally has been a total game changer. Listening to my body helps me avoid overcommitting, which helps me stay grounded, steady, and well.
