Tips and Tricks

Here we are, only a few days until Thanksgiving and the beginning of holiday parties, fun, family, cocktails and food. This is the time to open up your toolbox and make sure it’s full of all that you’ll need to have a balanced holiday season.

Here are a few tips and tricks that will help you navigate your way through this time of year and still enjoy yourself.

*Eat nutritious foods when you’re hungry during the day to prevent cravings and overeating at night.

*Give yourself permission to eat your favorite holiday foods - in moderation.

*Before heading out to a party, fill up your belly with a healthy snack.

*Eat until you’re satisfied, not until you’re full.

*Use a small plate.

*Make half of your plate fruit and veggies and the other half protein and grains.

*Go heavy on the water, if it’s going to be a cocktail day.

*Step away from the table when you’re finished.

*Guilt and overeating can actually trigger reactive overeating, where you’re eating because you feel like you already messed up anyway.  Stay present and mindful as you eat and stop when you’ve had enough.

*If you wake up with a food hangover, go light that day and drink a bunch of water.

*Make a plan on what you’ll say to yourself if you overeat or get discouraged.  Figure out a way to get yourself back on track and then just move the hell on.
