Strong Muscles

The secret to staying agile and energetic for life is strong muscles!!! We have to actively protect that strength though and that starts early. Muscle mass and strength naturally decline as we age. After about 40, the average person loses about 1% of their muscle mass and 2 to 3% of their strength annually. Left unchecked, this can lead to sarcopenia, a condition that affects 5-10% of 65 to 80 year olds (think of it as the muscle equivalent of osteoporosis).

It’s like a bank account. If you steadily build up your savings, even if you take a hit later on, you’ll still have plenty of money. So let’s all pump up! Strength training is your best investment. You’ll get a bigger bang for your buck if you pick up the habit when you’re younger, because your body is able to build muscle more efficiently - thanks to factors like higher testosterone production, better nerve function and lower inflammation. That said, it’s never too late to pump some iron. In a study from the Netherlands, older people who strength trained three times a week for 6 months gained an average of 3 pounds of muscle.

Now’s the time to build - and bank more of - your strength!!!
