I have 45 house plants…I just counted. :) My mom has a major green thumb and has always had a home full of plants, so it’s just kind of how I was raised and what I know. Most of my plants have super sentimental value. I have a Palm that used to live in my grandfather’s home, my Ivy comes from a clipping off of my cousin Laura’s wedding bouquet taken 17 years ago, and my Peperomia is the first plant that I bought after college.
Having a home full of greens is super beneficial on many fronts! They help to purify the air by taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, they increase the humidity in your home, they remove toxins (87% of VOCs every 24 hours), and a study in Norway found that sickness rates fell by more than 60% in offices with plants. It’s recommended that you should have one plant per 100 square feet, which means about 18 plants for an 1,800 square foot home.
Some plants can be tricky to grow but most don’t need that much attention. Find the spot in your home that the particular plant likes best and then make sure that it gets watered as much as needed. Kind of like us, we need to figure out the environment where we best thrive and grow and then we need to keep our bodies watered and exposed to the sunshine. Boom!
